Mission Statement

The mission of Vita-Living, Inc. is to provide lifelong services and supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to promote personal growth toward a safe, satisfying, and meaningful life in their community.

Based in Houston, Texas, Vita-Living, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency providing long-term comprehensive care and support services for adults and children who have intellectual and developmental disabilities such as autism and cerebral palsy.

Renée and Stan Wallace took their son, Rick, out of a private institution in 1976 because he was not receiving the services he needed. Professionals said that Rick’s problems, which included developmental disabilities, hyperactivity, and non-verbalization, could not be helped. The Wallaces did not believe them. Instead, they pioneered Vita-Living, Inc., which provided a breakthrough in the quality of life for Rick and others like him. From that first six-person home that opened in 1985 to the more than 500 individuals we currently serve, Vita-Living, Inc.’s philosophy has always been, “We keep trying until we succeed!”

The video below will provide additional context about who we’ve been and who we’re becoming as our clients age.

Lives change for the better through intensive attention to the physical and emotional needs of the people served. Because of this dedication to lifelong service, individualized treatment plans and positive involvement in our community, Vita-Living, Inc. is recognized as a leading proponent of integrated community living and an expert in the care of individuals with complex disabilities and behavioral challenges.
